Event Details
JUC members are joining the vigil outside the GEO Detention Center to support more than 1200 detainees, including Jeanette Vizguerra, and to protest ICE detentions. This is a great opportunity for JUC to show our continuing support for the detainees. Morale can be very low inside the Detention Center, so our presence can show people our care, and that they are not forgotten. Bring signs or banners with appropriate messages of support, that can be read from at least 50 feet away. We’ll carpool from JUC, or you can meet us there. Please indicate whether you can drive or need a ride when you sign up.
If you are unable to attend this vigil or others like it, but you would like an opportunity to participate in immigrant support, supporters of the detainees in Aurora are asking for people to become pen pals with detainees. The program, called Cartas de Paz (letters of Peace), provides important connections to the outside world for individual detainees. For more details, indicate your interest here, check the Weekly Connection, or drop by the UUSC TF Immigrant Support table on Sundays.
