Join percussionist, worship leader, and community-builder Matt Meyer for a day of rhythm, song, and spirit designed to rekindle our collective fire. Through three interactive workshops, we’ll explore rhythm in body and soul, discover songs that sustain movements for justice, and experience the deep connection that music builds within community.
Come for one session or spend the whole day in shared learning and joyful music-making. No musical experience is necessary – just a willingness to participate and connect.
Workshops include: Rhythm for Choir Masterclass (10:30am-12:00pm), Singing for Resistance & Resilience (1:00-2:30pm), and Drumming & Spirituality (3:00-4:30pm).
Let’s gather in rhythm, resilience, and resistance – through the power of music.

10:30 am – 12:00 pm
Cost: $15 (lunch not included; option to add below)
Description: An energetic, fully participatory workshop designed to help choirs better understand rhythm in the mind, body, and spirit. With Matt’s guidance, the choir will explore the theories and practices of West African, South Indian, and European perspectives of rhythm. This is as much rhythm training as you can possibly fit into a 90 minute masterclass!

Cost: $15 (lunch not included, option to add below)
Description: A strong movement needs strong music. We’ll share contemporary songs for protests, rallies, and organizing. We’ll share songs that can be sung in the streets without accompaniment, songs for organizing meetings that bring the energy you need, and songs for community that ground us for the long haul.

Workshop 3: Drumming & Spirituality

Cost: $15
Description: A chance for people of all skill levels to participate in hands-on rhythm-making. We’ll tour instruments from around the world and experience the connection of community music-making through different activities, stories, and discussions. We’ll also look at how rhythm and music intersect with Unitarian Universalist values. Bring your own drum if you have one; for those who don’t, enough will be provided.
