Wisdom Week 1: Wisdom of Caring For Our Earth

Throughout our abundant lives, we can find simple and quick ways to connect our learning and growth at church to our lives at home.

At Church:

We discovered the Wisdom of Caring for Our Earth supported by our 7th UU Principle- we care for the earth and all its people.

Morning Time:

Consider these thoughts by The Dalai Lama

It is in our collective and individual responsibility… to preserve and tend to the world in which we all live.

Weekly Chalice Lighting:

Today, we light our family chalice to share our gratitude to the earth.

Let us remember the earth’s blessings … list the things your family is grateful for.

And now, with this flame of hope, we offer our thanks for all we have named.

Together, we will do all we can to care for her.

Drive Time:

Listen to: Love song to the Earth

Meal Time:

Talk about: Do you think plants and trees have wisdom? If so, what might it be like? And how do you think they share it with other plants and animals? And us?!

What is your family grateful for the earth. What does our UU 7th UU tell us about caring for the Earth?

Bed Time:

Blessing of Wisdom

Wisdom is as wisdom does, dear families, and you are DOING it. In your parenting, you are compiling a generational store of wisdom: good experiences, good conversations, good ways of being, good ideas, good stories, and good relationships. May you recognize this gift of wisdom that you are giving your young ones and future peoples, and may you, in turn, be blessed by the wisdom of your children–a delightful and often surprising bounty! May they keep your own knack and knowledge fresh and joyous.
