The Green Task Force addresses the critical nature of climate change and the responsibility we all have to take care of the Earth and its many living systems.

We foster awareness and education around environmental issues by inviting speakers, showing films, planning actions, hosting workshops and social events, monitoring legislation, and exploring how individuals and JUC can improve our ecological impact.

We cooperate with other groups in our church on common causes and co-sponsor a monthly lecture series with the Colorado Renewable Energy Society.

The Green Task Force planning meeting meets from 12:30 to 2 p.m. on the third Sunday of the month. For more information, contact Martin Voelker.

Citizens Climate Lobby is working to enact legislation that puts a fee on the carbon in fossil fuels, to be assessed at the source – mine, well or port of entry. The fee would increase in a predictable manner until a safe level of greenhouse gas emissions is reached. This would put the cost of fossil fuels on an even playing field with renewable energy sources as well as reduce emissions, stabilize our climate, restore the health of the oceans, plus create millions of new jobs. All the money collected as carbon fees would be returned to American families, making this plan revenue neutral and consumer friendly. Phil Nelson heads up the Golden chapter. Meeting times are the second Saturday of each month at 10:30 a.m.

Colorado Renewable Energy Society is hosted at 7 p.m. in the chapel on the third Thursday of every month to help members and the public connect with the ideas and people that make renewable energy and energy efficiency happen. The mission of the Colorado Renewable Energy Society (CRES) is to lead Colorado and its people to an energy efficient and renewable energy economy through education, policy advancement and economic development. The CRES-Jeffco Chapter serves Golden, NREL, Colorado School of Mines, and the Denver area. The chapter works to increase awareness of the economic and environmental benefits of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies.
