Solar photovoltaics is now a resounding commercial success, even though PV is actually a relatively immature technology. Continued research will achieve further gains by optimized cell design, and increasing service life and reliability. But looking beyond technology improvements, solar can only unleash its full potential if we change how we operate the electric grid and push for massive electrification of transportation in this new renewable energy era. Sarah Kurtz has been with NREL since 1985 and is Co-Director of the National Center For Photovoltaics. Stay afterwards for a reception with food, drinks and conversations. Contact: Steve Stevens
