Denominational Connections

The Denominational Connections Group (DCG) participates in and informs the congregation regarding the activities of the Unitarian Universality Association (UUA), the Mountain Desert District (MDD), and the Boulder/Denver cluster (BDC) of UU churches.  The DCG strives to serve our mission to “grow Unitarian Universalism” and our UU President's call for us to become “the religion for our time”.

There are 45 congregations in the Mountain Desert District (MDD), spreading over the second largest geographic district in the UUA.  These states include Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico, Montana, Utah, and parts of Idaho, Nebraska, and Texas.  As one of the larger congregations in the district, we are allotted eight delegates to the annual meeting of the MDD held in October each year and five delegates to General Assembly (GA). 

The Boulder/Denver Cluster is a group of seven Unitarian Universalist Congregations in the Denver and Boulder metro area.  The cluster includes lay leaders along with representatives of the Front Range UU Ministers Association.  With support from the Mountain Desert District, the cluster publicizes a calendar of UU events, coordinates radio ads for Unitarian Universalism in the metro area, supports a Colorado UU Advocacy Network and plans UU involvement in the Pride Parade and other public events.

Along with sharing activities such as the annual Ninth Grade Trip and co-sponsoring regional conferences, we also support the Russell Lockwood Leadership School held every summer at a mountain retreat near Denver.  Participating in this continuing leadership school increases the depth of skills in our congregations and in people's personal lives.
 
Another very successful program of the Denominational Connections group is the Public Radio Project.  Several of the churches in the Denver/Boulder cluster combined efforts to raise funds to benefit a handful of public radio channels in Colorado, and to fund several Unitarian/Universalist underwriting messages broadcast during the week.
