The Thin Air Music Group

What, where. why and who is the Thin Air music group? We are 12 or so individuals who get together to play music on Tuesday afternoons at JUC. The 1:oo pm time is best for those who do not drive at night or are available during the day.We want to keep up our musical skills with an accepting and comfortable group.

We got started about ten years ago under the direction of Erika Sueker who later left to form her Golden Independent School. Now Bob Stelzer and Margaret Bakker keep the group together. Margaret provides musical leadership and arranges pieces. Our instrumental levels may be considered intermediate and we have two each of violins, violas, guitars, recorders, three autoharps, one flute, euphonium and percussion Most of us read music and sing and some play by ear. Our repertoire includes folk, ethnic, old time, and original tunes. We keep our music lively and interesting and we encourage singing along when possible.

We have shared our music with retirement homes, care centers, retired teachers' luncheons, Columbine UU, North Presbyterian Church, and JUC fellowship dinners. On Memorial Day and Flag Day we performed patriotic and peace music at Dayton Place and Westland Meridian retirement centers. When we don't have a program to rehearse for we just enjoy sitting down and jamming.

We frquently combine with Get Up and Go, (all JUCers). Members of Thin Air and Get Up and Go are: Carol Monfort, Edna Miller, Erik Von Halle, Marc Goodbody, Bob Stelzer, Margaret Bakker, Judy Hamilton, Catherine Rovey, Eve Johnson, Gail Hamilton, Akal Wieting, John and Jeanne Schaffer, Carol Karlin.

We'd be happy for additional members, especially string players. Just phone Bob, 303 986-0310, or Margaret, 303 986-0769 or show up at 1:00 on any Tuesday.
